Support the Paris Agreement

Take five minutes out of your day to make a difference.

Climate change is real and it’s important for the United States to join in the effort to save our planet. The United States signed the United Nations Paris Agreement last year and pledged to help combat climate change. Now the Trump Administration is considering pulling out of the agreement, which could have catastrophic effects not just for our country, but the world. Sounds dramatic, but it’s reality.

There’s still hope though and YOU can do something about it. Time to Contact Congress.

STEP ONE:

Use the links below to find contact information for your representative and two senators.

STEP TWO:

Use the phone script or form email below to contact your officials. Feel free to modify the message as you see fit. As a tip a PHONE CALL IS MORE LIKELY TO GET YOUR VOICE HEARD AND COUNTED THAN AN EMAIL, but an email is better than nothing!

PHONE CALL SCRIPT:

Hello, my name is [YOUR NAME] and I’m calling the office of [NAME OF SENATOR/REPRESENTATIVE] because I am a constituent. I live at [ADDRESS, CITY, and STATE] and my phone number is [PHONE NUMBER].

I’m calling to ask [NAME OF SENATOR/REPRESENTATIVE] to publicly support the United Nations’ Paris Agreement, and to use the full measure of [HIS/HER] office to encourage the President to do so as well. As it pertains to coalition-building, having the United States even threaten to rescind its support for this agreement – one whose architecture and messaging we are inexorably linked to – is a national embarassment. We are looked to as a leader on the world stage; we don’t get to waver in our resolutions.

But as it pertains to the very real threat of climate change, our President’s flirtation with noncompliance is foolish to the point of reckless incompetence. With 16 of the 17 warmest years on record happening since 2001, the time for action on climate change has long since come. The Paris Agreement is a sensible, measured, and effective way to course correct ourselves and ensure there is still a habitable planet here for our grandchildren’s grandchildren.

Climate change is not simply a matter of policy or legislation — you are quite literally gambling with the future of the only known planet in existence human beings can live on.

I am part of a growing body of concerned, voting citizens, and we are paying attention. You will be hearing from me on more issues in the future, and I will consider your actions when casting my vote.

Thank you for your time.
