Thank Congress… and Ask Them to Think

Take 5 minutes and make a difference.

As Congress heads for a long recess in August, let’s remind them that Americans are not as divided as our legislative body’s actions would suggest. Let’s thank them for their work so far and ask them to keep OUR interests in mind, not those of corporations or political convenience.

STEP ONE:

Use the links below to find contact information for your representative and two senators.

STEP TWO:

Use the phone script or form email below to contact your officials. Feel free to modify the message as you see fit. As a tip a PHONE CALL IS MORE LIKELY TO GET YOUR VOICE HEARD AND COUNTED THAN AN EMAIL, but an email is better than nothing!

PHONE CALL SCRIPT:

Hello, my name is [YOUR NAME] and I’m calling the office of [NAME OF SENATOR/REPRESENTATIVE] because I am a constituent. I live at [ADDRESS, CITY, and STATE] and my phone number is [PHONE NUMBER].

I am calling to thank [NAME OF SENATOR/REPRESENTATIVE] for your office’s responsiveness, and for continuing to work on behalf of the American people. Please remember that while Congress may be divided on certain issues, a majority of Americans are in agreement about healthcare, climate change, and social security. The division in Congress prevents American progress and my hope is to move beyond this. I ask you to spend time during the August recess reflecting on the values and goals that all Americans share, and I expect you to find opportunities to reach across the aisle when you return.

I am part of a growing body of concerned voters who are paying attention and eager to see examples of leadership and collaboration in the future. You will be hearing from me on more issues in the future, and I will consider your actions when casting my vote.

Thank you for your time.
