Yes on BRIDGE, No on Wall, and More Immigration Reform

Take 5 minutes and make a difference.

President Trump is decidedly anti-immigration. Our country was in sore need of revised immigration policies before he took office and now some of the few protections and rights immigrants in the United States enjoy could be stripped away. Let’s call Congress and ask them to preserve what we already have and move forward with better immigration reform.

The BRIDGE Act is a piece of bipartisan legislation, “whose intent is to allow people who are eligible for or who have received work authorization and temporary relief from deportation through Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) to continue living in the U.S. with permission from the federal government. Identical legislation was introduced in the House of Representatives by Rep. Mike Coffman (R-CO) and seven other House members,” according to the National Immigration Law Center. President Trump plans to eliminate DACA, so if this bill became law, it would provide many immigrants legally residing in the United States with relief. Let’s ask Congress to vote Yes on this.

We all know about the ridiculous border wall. Let’s ask Congress to vote no on a piece of infrastructure that will end up hurting and killing many people.

Finally, we need comprehensive immigration reform in the United States that is kind, humanitarian, and welcomes those who contribute so much to our society. Our system is archaic and unfair to immigrants. Let’s ask Congress to work on this as well.

Hello, my name is [YOUR NAME] and I’m calling the office of [NAME OF SENATOR/REPRESENTATIVE] because I am a constituent. I live at [ADDRESS, CITY, and STATE] and my phone number is [PHONE NUMBER].

Today, I’m calling to share my views on immigration. I’m asking to [SENATOR/REPRESENTATIVE] to vote for S. 3542 and H.R. 496 the BRIDGE Act. I believe immigrants who legally reside in America should not have their protections and ability to stay stripped away.

I’m also calling to ask you to oppose President Trump’s border wall. This isn’t a matter of expense. It’s a matter of life and death for many immigrants. Please do all you can to oppose the immoral wall.

Finally, I’m asking you to pursue full-on immigration reform in the United States. Our current system is archaic and unfair to immigrants. Please work with other lawmakers to find solutions that welcome amazing new people full of ideas, integrity, and diversity into our country. Please make the United States a welcoming nation that is safe and secure for those living in dangerous areas. We call ourselves the land of opportunity. It’s time we start acting like it.

I am part of a growing body of concerned, voting citizens, and we are paying attention.

Thank you for your time.
